Yes what you read is true. On 2nd July 2011* – I set myself a crazy-ass goal of making $1 million dollars in 999 days. I aim to achieve this primarily through start-up businesses. How exactly? Well, I don’t know – yet.
Make no mistake. I do realise that this is a highly mad and crazy goal. That there is a great chance that I will fall flat on my face, that I will fall short or just plain fail.
However, I wanted to create a crazy ‘big mama’ of a goal that every day I could work towards – a goal so big that every day I had no option but to kick my own butt and keep hustling! If you’re reading this – I guess you’ve some bad-ass goals you want to achieve too, so we’re in this together. Meeting you is the reason I started this blog – so I’d love to hear from you.
There’s a favourite saying of mine from New Zealand that goes:
I’m not here to fuck spiders
It means not being prepared to aim low or accept second best. So while most people would think this goal is nuts – I’m aiming 180 degree up and going to do everything I can over the next 999 days to get there.
Each month I’ll be posting my strategy, what I’ve learnt and how much I’ve made so far. I’ll also be following some rules, which I’ve listed below.
The funny thing is, I’m not motivated by money at all. I just felt $1 million was a figure that was big enough to inspire me, and others to do something truly amazing.
In fact, if everything goes to plan I’ll have given away – $20K+ – and be in a position to help even more people at the end. I think that’s pretty cool.
The rules I’ll be sticking to
1. Giving Away
Every time I reach a financial milestone I’ll give away 10% of that amount to charity. I’ll do this where I’m ahead, behind or bang on schedule in reaching this milestone.
(Yes, I do realise that giving away 10% of each milestone will take me further away from the goal of $1 million, but I believe this very act of giving will ultimately take me four steps closer to my ultimate goal. Have I confused you yet? I explain it more in the next point).
2. Karma Powered
Remember the last time someone went out of their way to help you with something that was important to you. How did you feel?
I MASSIVELY believe that by helping people, that good act will be returned to you in some shape or form. It might not be that friend/person helping you out directly, or it might be. But by helping others achieve their goals, you’ll achieve yours.
Sound counter-intuitive? I’m learning that a lot of the important things in life are.
Anyway, every single thing I do during this challenge will be ‘karma powered’. I’ll be helping people at every possible moment I can, the best I can.
This will be my Shark Repellent Bat Spray that powers me along and gets me through the tough times.
3. Full transparency
The whole idea for this blog came to me while I was sitting on a beach in Malaysia, the week after I quit my job (PhD to be exact – it’s the same, only more boring and pays less), trying to figure out how I was going to follow my dreams. I knew some things I wanted: success, freedom, fulfilment, following my passion etc – but I had NO IDEA how I was going to achieve them.
I searched online for the answer and read a few ebooks, even bought a course on affiliate marketing – but so much of it was hyped, promised the world and I knew it sounded too good to be true. I had this massive pain inside me saying ‘is this for real?’
I had no problems committing myself and diving in head first – but I wanted to know that the path I chose was a real one.
That’s why on this blog I’ll be telling you the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
To achieve I’ll be recording by monthly income (screen shots and all), my mistakes (there’ll be lots), my failures (hey, you can’t hit a home run in every swing) and my successes (hopefully a few of them too). My hope is by documenting all this, it will provide you with a roadmap you can believe in and trust. Ultimately it will make it that bit easier for you to achieve something similar, or even bigger, than I ever do – I’d love that (please tell me when you do).
I’m most definitely human so if you ever see me fail on any of these points, feel free to nudge, shout or point and wail.
4. Passion test
I’ll only being doing projects and work that excite and inspire me. They say ‘there’s a million ways to make a million’, well I’ll be choosing the fun and exciting ways. Simple as. Why would you choose anything else?

Hey Howard! Ran across your site via a youtube interview you did. I find your goal and ideas quite refreshing! I also like the fact that you are going to be donating 10% – I believe that this is something that any successful individual or corporation should do.
So when is this roadmap/screen shots going to be started? I am extremely curious as to how it’s going.
I will be starting a similar path next year.
If you ever find yourself in Denmark, don’t hesitate to get into contact!

Kevin
